I handcrafted this brooch using sterling silver and vibrant red nylon thread, combining traditional metalwork with contemporary textile techniques that I love to explore in my practice. The silver elements were created using a drip-casting method, where I melt the silver and pour it into cold water, allowing organic, unpredictable forms to emerge. I’m drawn to this process because it produces raw, textured shapes that remind me of fragments of coral shaped naturally by the sea.
I then crocheted red nylon thread into a web-like structure over the silver forms, carefully creating both physical and visual tension through placement and colour contrast. For me, this tension reflects the fragile relationship between marine life and water pollution, a theme that feels increasingly urgent and personal.
This brooch is designed as a statement piece: bold, expressive, and meaningful. Creating wearable art is my greatest passion, and through pieces like this, I aim to craft jewellery that not only adorns the body but also tells a story and sparks conversation.
