I designed this pendant in sterling silver wirework, inspired by the delicate yet dramatic form of a black sea urchin. I wanted to explore how wire could be used in a more sculptural, expressive way, transforming a traditional technique into something organic and unexpected.
To create the structure, I formed two silver domes, one nestled inside the other, carefully proportioned to allow gentle movement within the piece. I drilled varied holes around the outer dome to hold different thicknesses of wire, securing each by melting the ends into small balls. After threading and trimming the wires, I attached the two forms together, refined the surface, and added the hanging mechanism. A dark oxidised patina completes the piece, giving it the rich tone of a sea urchin.
The subtle movement of the wires was intentional; when worn, they softly shift and echo the feeling of waves moving underwater. This was one of my favourite pieces to create, as it beautifully combines technical precision with creative expression, a balance that defines my work.
